Dallas experimental act Tree Wave is giving away four songs for free as a "virtual 10 inch" at their site right now. No explanation, no fanfare, no liner notes. I'd say "no promotion," either, but band mastermind Paul Slocum posted an assuming alert about the release on MySpace yesterday--and, of course, nobody noticed. I can't believe he didn't TwitBookBit it! I mean, it's 20xx!
The 12-minute collection of 4 songs will sound familiar to Tree Wave fans; Slocum is still bleeding old game consoles and computers dry to make lush, plodding waves of noise, made fuzzier by guitar pedals. But these are not as poppy as 2004's Cabana+ EP; from the sound of it, Slocum has entered a new realm of comfort, as these noise blasts are shapely, yet formless, and a lot more provocative as a result.
Judge for yourself.
