You'd think that even though I'm this many miles away, I'd still at least have the nerve to pick up a copy of Spin Magazine when it dedicated an entire article to Dallas' music scene. Thing is, even if they gave Corn Mo a 12-page spread on accordion fashion trends (good idea, BTW), I'd still rather not pay to read the Blender of music magazines.

Thankfully, Spin got the hint and finally uploaded their January '08 mini-feature on Dallas to the Internet. Hit the Contents button at Spin's surprisingly robust online reader, and zip to page 110 for our old friend Zac Crain's balanced, interesting coverage of Dallas in their new "Rock City" bit. And yes, that means Denton and Fort Worth are eschewed, meaning that the bearded one needs to pitch the other half of this site's name (if only to correct the attribution of Midlake to Dallas, an error the band'll surely ride him about for the next decade to come). Considering how little space he has to touch on Dallas' variety, you gotta hand it to him for his five-pack profile: PPT, The Party, Sean Kirkpatrick, Pleasant Grove and Tree Wave. Whoa, no mention of the Nourallah Alliance? The Lord works in mysterious ways.
If he were to whip up a sequel piece exclusively about Denton--or if I were to step on his toes and do it in his stead--what five-pack would you want to see? -SM
