D Nuts || December 26, 2007

Hope everybody's holidays are going well. A consistent lack of posts will continue until the new year, I'm afraid, but in the meantime, I strongly advise you to peruse the Dallas Observer's all-local year-end list. Written entirely by locals who I was proud to work with back in the day, this list is, for the most part, damn good. Too bad it's buried in a swath of corporate, pre-packaged shit, too brazen to even bother hiding its syndication by trumpeting each VVM city name per chunk. Consider the local list one of the music section's latest dying gasps, escaping from the heaving, drunken maw of Village Voice Media. From the way their list's intro reads, it seems the folks at the Observer agree with that sentiment and then some.

Expect Dd's Local List '07 within the first few days of the new year, if not sooner. -SM

Help out one of our own || December 7, 2007

One of Dd's favorite people, and one third of PPT, Pikahsso is in the final 3 of VH1's ecritic contest. Pik's "Militant Movie Moment" review of Rob Zombie's Halloween is light years ahead of the other 2 finalists, so lets not let some douchewagon from NYC win this contest.

Free Band of Horses Tickets || December 5, 2007

Win them before you can buy them style, our friends over at The Palladium have supplied us with a set of tickets to the February 2nd Band of Horses show.
Band of Horses put on one of the best live shows around (think My Morning Jacket minus the Flaming Lips shenanigans) and this will be their first trip through DFW since releasing this year's fantastic Cease to Begin.

How to win:
Cease to Begin is my (Jasun) 3rd favorite record of 2007, and all you have to do is guess what two records rank higher on my year end list. Hint: Both bands played ACL Fest and neither are named Wilco or Arcade Fire. (if no one guesses both, winner will be selected from those that get at least one right)

Alternative method of winning (posted by Sam):
Come up with what you think Jasun's two favorites were, and we'll include your names in the running. I'm not punishing BoH fans for not reading your mind, dude.

E-mail guesses to bigdlittled@gmail.com by noon on Friday.
