Fried Street || June 28, 2007
It's not really music-related, but Dd makes an exception for burn-downs and potential arson...and the fiery end of Denton's Flying Tomato (video above) fits at least one of those categories. Surely this story will make the local news/blog rounds for the morning and be forgotten by most by 1 p.m., but it makes a sick sense that Fry Street's current state of teardowns and gentrification got a shot in the arm.

The info is courtesy of a frantic text message late this evening from our friends at Kittenpants along with updates at the Denton Rock City forums. The latter has plenty more info and photos, so we'll step out of the way for now... but if we find out that Built to Spill started the fire, we'll report ASAP. -SM

This happens too often in Denton when they need something gone.
(When i watched my home at the Delta Lodge, which was a fire caused by recent electrical work and an occupant thinks that the wires in his room could handle 8 strips of track lighting, a full sized fridge, and a giant window AC unit.....why?). And we had just paid off the house note only year or so before. Finally owned the damn thing and it goes up.
Shortly after that, Bari's Pizza burned about 100 yards away, then Ricks place under mysterious circumstances and my friends home/PC repair store next to Riprock's had burned only a few years prior to The Delta Lodge.
The old theater in the Square burned.
Now the Tomato.
What is it with Denton and Huge fire Around the Fry street area?
